An Explorationof the communication Strategies Used when Cultural Laden words are Translated from Japanese to Arabic in ELF Interaction

AN EXPLORATION OF THE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES USED WHEN CULTURE-LADEN WORDS ARE TRANSLATED FROM JAPANESE TO ARABIC IN ELF INTERACTION STEPHANIE ANN HOUGHTON AND KHALIFA AL ASSWAD ABSTRACT The purpose of the study described in this paper is to support the development of intercultural ELF pedagogy by connecting Kirkpatrick’s (2007a) lingua franca approach to English language education with Byram’s (1997) model of intercultural communicative competence through action research. Conducted in an English language course at a university in southern Japan by a British and a Libyan teacher-researcher, it explores the communication strategies used during the translation of culture-laden Japanese words into Arabic in real-time interaction using English. Audio-recorded data of five dialogues in which ten Japanese students attempted to teach the Libyan teacher-researcher culture-laden Japanese words in English to elicit translations into Arabic were transcribed and analysed by extending and adapting Kirkpatrick’s (2007b) list of ASEAN ELF communication strategies. Ethical issues were duly considered. A range of communication strategies will be presented that can be incorporated into materials and methods, which may potentially be expanded upon by drawing on existing communication strategy research. The implications of such an approach will be considered in relation to the setting of learning objectives, task and syllabus design, and the role of teachers and students as intercultural mediators. التوجه الصيني نحو أفريقيا

مستخلص الدراسة يثير التوجه الصينينحو القارة السمراء " توجيه نشاط السياسة الخارجية الصينية نحو افريقيا"العديد من التساؤلات حول أسبابه ودوافعه الرئيسية لدى كثير من المهتمين بالدراسات الدولية . فالقارة الأفريقيةأصبحت في الآونة الأخيرة محل اهتمام وتوجه السياسة الخارجية للعديد من الدول الغنية. ومع استمرار الاهتمام التقليدي للدول الاستعمارية كفرنسا وبريطانيا مثلاومع تغلغل للنفوذ الأمريكي بشكل كبير وتواجد ملحوظ للعديد من القوى الاقليمية. فتدخل الصين على هذا الخط الأمر الذي يمثل تحولا كبيرا في السياسة الخارجية الصينية . وإذ تركِّز هذه الدراسة على الاهتمام الصيني بإفريقيابالتطرق لأسبابه وأبعاده ودوافعه. كما تتناول الفرص والتحديات التي تواجه هذا التواجد والتي تتمثل في زخم التنافس الدولي في أفريقيا. ثم محاولة تحديد أهم الوسائل التي استخدمتها الاستراتيجية الصينية للتحقيق اهدافها وخاصة القوى الناعمة .

ادراك الموطن العادي لمواصفات الغذاء الحلال في المنتج الأجنبي

هدف البحث إلي التعرف ما مدي ادراك الموطن لمكونات المنتج الأجنبي ، والتطرق لإمكانية تضمين مواصفات الغذاء الحلال ضمن المقررات الدراسية بالتعليم الأساسي. اعتمد البحث علي المنهج الوصفي وتكون المجتمع من المشترين بسوق المهارى بمدينة طرابلس. أهم النتائج : ارتفاع نسب الذين ليس لديهم الثقة بأن المنتوجات الأجنبية المصدر يتم تسويقها وفق مواصفات الغذاء الحلال ، والذين يقومون بقراءة مكونات المنتج الأجنبي علي الغلاف ، والذين ليس لديهم معرفة بإن الرمز(E441) يعني لحم الخنازير ، والذين لديهم معرفة إن التنوع الكبير في منتجات الأغذية قد يكون له أثر كبير في اقحام مواد محرمة ونجسه ومشبوهة ، والذين يؤيدون تضمين مواصفات الغذاء الحلال ضمن المقررات الدراسية بالتعليم الأساسي. الكلمات المفتاحية : ادراك - الموطن العادي - مواصفات - الغذاء الحلال – المنتج الحلال.

ترجمة من اللغة الإنجليزية إلى اللغة العربية للفصل السابع بعنوان ( إختبار اللغة) من كتاب تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية للطلبة العرب من الصفحة (100) وحتى الصفحة (118) تأليف د.محمد علي الخبولي

يلعب الإختبار دورا مهما في التدريس، فالإختبار الجيد عامل أساسي في التدريس والتعليم الجيد خصوصا في البرامج المدرسية الإعتيادية، توضح الخبرات التدريسية بأن كلامن المعلمين والطلبة يؤكدون على ماتؤكد عليه الإختبارات من أهمية في مجال التدريس، ونتيجة لذلك فإن وجود تسرب في نظام الإختبار يسبب خلل في عمليات التدريس والتعليم . وسوف نناقش في هذا الفصل أغراض الإختبارات وأنواعها المختلفة وماهي المجالات اللغوية التي ينبغي إختبارها وكيف نختبر كل مجال من هذه المجالات اللغوية وسوف نناقش بصورة أكبر كيفية إعداد الإختبار، وكيفية إجرائه وماهي شروط الإختبار الجيد .

الصعوبات التي تواجه تطبيق ضمان جودة التعليم الجامعي الخاص

This study aims at the recognition to the administrative difficulties encounter the application of assurance of quality system of the higher private education. It also, aims at the recognition to the administrative organizational difficulties and on the local level.( the educational institution). The importance of this study can be described in the following: 1.The study concentrates on the difficulties which face applying quality assurance system in higher private education institutions. 2. The present study contributes in assisting officials and decision makers in developing the educational process. The study problem determined in finding an answer to the following question: What leadership and organizational difficulties face applying quality assurance system in higher private education? The study sample consists of (40) staff members who are in charge of quality departments and sections at five private universities. In order to achieve study objectives, the analytical descriptive method was used. In the collection of data related to the study, the researchers depended on a questionnaire designed by Ragad (2014) as a mean for data collection. It consists of two parts. The questionnaire was revised by two experts and the researchers decided to use only (34) items. Dealing with study sample indicated that there were many administrative leadership difficulties encounter applying quality system in the higher private education. The study results showed that there was institutional deficiency related to planning; the objectives weren’t clear and cannot be measured etc. The study also indicated that there was clear deficiency on the organizational level which considered as an institutional administrative dimension. Another deficiency on the guidance level was also found by the study.

Difficulties encountered Student teachers while doing their practicum (Afield study)

Teaching practice is an important stage in the preparation process of student teachers. The current study aimed at investigating the challenges and difficulties encounter students of the Department of English language in the Faculty of Education at the University of Tripoli while doing their practicum. It also aimed at investigating any significant statistical differences in the perceptions of student teachers. The study tried to find an answer for the question: What are the teaching difficulties encountered student teachers of the English department in the Faculty of Education while doing their practicum? to enable teacher educators and students to attain the desired outcomes from teaching practice. To achieve this purpose, a questionnaire with four domains was developed as follows: The faculty role, educational supervisor, specialized supervisor, school administrators, and cooperated teacher. A survey study ( a sample of 40 student teachers (STs) who attended and passed the theoretical teaching practice. Part (TP) was chosen as the unit of analysis, and were asked to fill in an open ended questionnaire. Results of the study revealed the following: (a) The Faculty of Education at the University of Tripoli helped students in concern with the aims and the conditions of doing the TP as well as determining the place for doing the TP. (b) The study showed the importance of the role played by both educational and specialized supervisors in helping students to overcome the educational difficulties related to the educational process. (c) The study indicated that the cooperated teachers at schools didn‟t positively cooperate with students while doing their practicum especially that related to class management. The study suggested the following: (a) Increasing the period of the teaching practice from one semester into a year to enable students to have more practice at schools.(b) Increasing number of experienced staff members in the faculty who devoted themselves to the teaching practice to supervise and lead teaching practice process in the faculty and at places of training. Finally, the study provided a number of recommendations for the field of study

THE DEGREE TO WHICH ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEXTBOOKS OF THE SECONDARY STAGE IN LIBYA CONTRIBUTE IN ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS FROM ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS' PERSPECTIVE

This particular study aimed at identifying the degree to which sustainable development goals were considered in English Language Textbooks of the secondary stage in Libya from teachers' perspective. The English Language curriculum consists of three main textbooks one for each stage. English for Libya Secondary 1 course and work book. English for Libya Secondary 2 course and work book. English for Libya Secondary 3 course and work book. English for Libya Secondary 3 course and work book. The study adopted the descriptive approach and the questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection. The study included (13) secondary schools in the area of Eign Zara in the city of Tripoli / Libya. The questionnaire was answered by about 71 secondary school teachers who teaches English Language curricula at the secondary schools. The results of the study revealed that the contribution of English Language Textbooks of the secondary stage in achieving sustainable development from teachers' perspective in most of the three dimension items was of little degree in terms of dominant response and all means of items except two items less than the adopted mean of the study. The results of the study also showed no statistical significance among teachers grades on sustainable development in the three dimension; the economic, environmental or social and the total grade according to the year of teaching variable (the level the teacher is teaching now) in which the (F) value in the economic dimension was (0. 507) and the environmental dimension was (0. 299) and the social dimension was (0. 377) and the total degree was (0. 620) and all the values are statistically different from secondary school teachers prospective. The study also showed no statistical significance among teachers grades on sustainable development in the three dimension; the economic, environmental or social and the total grade according to years of experience variable in which the (F) value in the economic dimension was (0. 612) and the environmental dimension was (0. 378) and the social dimension was (0. 542) and the total degree was (0. 669) and all the values are not statistically significant which means that there is no differences in terms of experience years variable. Based on the results, the study came out with several recommendations, including: Calling on educational institutions to focus on the English Language curricula to highlight the role of sustainable development goals to make students aware of the importance of sustainable development goals and targets
